"I will give my all"

"I will give my all for Portland today!"

When I was in middle school I was persuaded to try out for the football team. There was going to be a meeting during the regular time at school in which we would have recess or if it was raining, just walking around the gym court. As the meeting was announced I continued my walk with no intention of playing football. That was until Coach Lane made his way across the gym floor and walked me onto the stage to where the meeting was, convincing me to give it a chance.

I enjoyed playing and being a part of the team. I grew a lot and learned many lessons for decision making, teamwork, and discipline. At West Middle School one of the things that seems to be imprinted into my mind is a sign we would see leaving the locker room. We would slap it exiting the locker room getting onto the bus for a game or going out to practice. It read "I will give my all for Portland today!" If you are a Tennessee Vols fan this might sound similar to something they have. As we would slap the sign, we would commit to giving our very best during the game or practice.

Paul encourages us in Colossians 3:23-24 to do the same " Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve."

There is an eternal perspective & comparison from playing football at West to serving Jesus. As Coach Lane walked across the gym floor to take me into the meeting, Jesus made a much more impactful walk for all of us. That walk was with a cross on His back after being beaten to die for the sin of the world, instead of us. It was because of His love He made that walk.

Let His walk for us persuade you to join His team and give your all for His glory and purpose! We are saved because of His death and resurrection; that should be our motivation and encouragement to live for and lead others to Him. No matter what you do, do it for Jesus, not a paycheck. Seek not to be glorified but that Jesus is. Serve others but not to expect anything in return.

Pray Now that Jesus would search your heart of your motivation and intentions when it comes to serving Him.
